Most household ant problems come from a small number of species — odorous house ants, pavement ants, and pharaoh ants are the most common trailing nuisance ants that come indoors looking for food and water, not to nest in the structure itself.

Effective treatment targets the colony, not just the visible trail — sprays that only kill foraging workers often leave the colony intact and producing more. Baiting, which workers carry back to the nest, is usually the more durable fix.
